Production log 11

Promotional Methods

I included a variety of methods in how I will spread awareness of my magazine and persuade the target audience to buy every issue released.

Social Media

These are all ideas of how I will use Social media to notify more people about my magazine and widen the target audience. It will also help for users of the sites to feel more involved with my brand and to therefore keep buying issues of my magazine.

Magazine image ideas

These images were an inspiration for my own music magazine as all the artists included represent the genre of R&B that I chose. The locations and outifts are also an inspiration of what I would like my magazine to include.

In todays lesson I further improved the layout of my contents page, I organised the pictures and texts until I was completely happy with how it looked. I created subtitles and headings for each column of writing. I then searched up images on google and found pictures to replace the red boxes on the page. These images will stay there until I complete my photoshoot and can replace them with my own photo's. I also temporarily placed text in to the columns just to get a good idea of whether I like the layout of the page or not. Next lesson I will further improve my contents page, so that it is ready for me to place my own photos and text in.

In this lesson, I started the making of my magazine. I followed the tutorials on media resources to help me start making my contents page. When I finished copying the layout from the tutorial, I started to rearrange the layout to make it my own. I used red squares to represent images so when I have done my photoshoot, I can just replace them with the pictures. I left empty text boxes with titles of where my text will be placed. I customized the font and also placed the date and issue number in. Next lesson I will continue customizing my contents page and if I finish I will then move on to designing the layout of the other pages.

In todays lesson I started the proposal draft for my music magazine. I wrote about the genre of my magazine and why I chose to do this specific type of music, I explained how it was because I listen to many artists of this genre of music and how it is very current in the music industry. I included the purposes of my magazine which is to both entertain and inform. The content of my magazine will be entirely postitive and honest, I wrote about how I would not include any false information about celebrities or portray them in a negative way as they are supposed to be role models to the my target audience. I then included what the content of my magazine is and why I chose this specific target audience. I used screenshots of similar music magazines that I will use as a template when making my own maagzine. After completing the whole draft, I will rewrite it to make a final proposal.

Production log 7

In todays lesson we started our planning for our music magazine. I finished both the codes and conventions and iconography. The codes and conventions include what you would usually see on a ordinary music magazine, this is helpful because it gives a good idea of what needs to be included on it. I did these for all the front cover, contents and double page spread. For the iconography planning, I decided to base my magazine on RnB music. I got a list of Rnb artists and festivals that they make appearances at. I also did a page on outfits, for this I used the well - known RnB artist Rihanna and got a variety of images where she was wearing different styles and items of clothing. This will help me in my future photoshoot for my magazine, so I know what kind of style and clothes I want my models to wear. Next lesson I will start to create a survey so that I can find out what people would like to see in my magazine.

In today's lesson we started to analyse music magazines. We will be analysing 3 front covers, 3 contents pages and 3 double page spreads. I chose 3 magazines that were completely different genres of musics and included different artists so that there would be a lot to say about each one. As I finished the front covers for homework, I focused on analysing my contents pages in detail. To do this you must comment on the masthead, the main image, the sell lines and how all of these help to sell the magazine. You must also comment on the target audience and social grades as these are all important codes and conventions of a music magazine. next lesson I will focus on analysing the 3 double page spreads.

In this lesson I focused on my evaluation, I made it on powerpoint with images of both the front cover and contents page. Around the images I wrote why I chose the colour scheme and fonts that I did and how it would represent and promote Haydon school well. I also did this for the main image, and anything else that inlcuded on my magazine, I stated why it would attract to the target audience and why they would want to read my magazine. After I finished my magazine and published it on to my blog, I got taught how to analyse a music magazine in detail and all the points that you have to talk about, I then searched on google to find a magazine that I liked and could then analyse next lesson.

Preliminary cover and contents

This is my finished front cover and contents of my magazine to promote haydon school.

Production Log 4

In this lesson I aimed to finish the preliminary task of creating the magazine to promote Haydon school. I started on my contents page, in which I decided to use two images. One of the headteacher and another of the Haydon school values. I used these pictures because they related to sell lines and the contents which I included on the page, therefore it further attracted the target audiences to find and read these pages. I used the same colour scheme as the one on my front cover. This was blue, white and red. The blue represents Haydon school well and the red stands out as a bold font colour against the blue background. After arranging everything on my contents page, I went back and edited small things on my front cover until I was completely happy with how the magazine looked. However next lesson I still need to complete an evaluation of the magazine and then I will have finished the preliminary task.

Production Log 2&3

In both of these lessons I focused on the front cover for my magazine, and successfully finished it by the end of lesson 3. Firstly I used a Camera to collect a number of photographs of a student and also a number of different places in the school, that I could then transfer on to the computer and use in my magazine. I decided on a mid shot of the student wearing uniform because I thought it represented the school well and would attract the target audience because they are of a similar age group. After choosing which images I wanted to use, I cut out the backgrounds on Photoshop so that I could then transfer them to In design, this looked a lot better than keeping the original background of the photo. I then enlarged the image until I was happy with how It looked, I decided to make the background of my magazine cover a light blue, however I made it gradient so that it started off blue and faded in to white. This was because I thought that a complete blue background looked too strong and that the gradient background was more subtle and professional looking and still used the Haydon colour of blue. I then produced a bold and bright title ‘Haydon shout’ I made this red because it stood out well on the blue background. I placed the Haydon logo behind the writing so that it was recognizable to the target audience. Lastly I placed four sell lines on to the magazine; all which I already planned from my sketch, I then arranged these on the page until they looked even on both sides and they still stood out but didn't take the attention of from the main image and title. Next lesson I will start to make my contents page.

Production Log

Today’s lesson was an introduction to the course and what we be will be focusing on this year in media studies.
We started our preliminary task of the coursework which is to create a magazine to promote Haydon school, we will only be making a front cover and contents page. This will test our magazine making skills and also help us when we start the real tasks of the coursework. In this lesson I started to sketch both of these pages on paper before starting to make them on the computer. My front cover was a mid shot of girl in Haydon uniform, this represents Haydon school well and will attract the students because they can relate to it, The name of my magazine is Haydon shout, I put this at the top of the page and will make sure it is bold and stands out, preferably in a blue colour as this is one of the main colours of the school. I included a few sell lines on the front cover making sure they would attract the target audience. The contents page had a background of the school and then several titles and numbers down the page. This will further tell the reader what will be included in the magazine and will help them to find any specific pages that they want to see. After I finished sketching my ideas I then used a camera to take any necessary pictures that I needed for my magazine. Next lesson I will scan in my sketches and upload the pictures that I took so that I can start to make my magazine.
